Ruth Ibegbuna: a woman who has shaped Manchester

The John Rylands Library’s ‘Women Who Shaped Manchester’ exhibition ends this weekend, to coincide with International Women’s Day 2019. We would like to celebrate who we think deserves to be among them, namely, Ruth Ibegbuna.

Ruth founded the Manchester-based youth leadership charity Reclaim in 2007, with an ambitious aim to end leadership inequality within a generation. The charity’s pioneering work has been recognized by many local and national awards, including two Philip Lawrence Awards.

Ruth also set up the Roots Programme, out of a desire to heal the division exposed by Brexit through exchange programmes involving people from all walks of life and with contrasting opinions.

Thank you Ruth for all that you have done to shaped the life and opportunities of young people and communities in Manchester and beyond.

We would also like to give a big shout-out to out favourite football team, Burnley FC Women – good luck on Sunday against Newcastle United Women’s Football Club.
